Barrington Senior Pictures Photoshoot | Jennifer

Hey people … please take a moment to meet Jennifer.  Jennifer came to the studio as a friend referral from the US Synchronized Skating community that our family has been involved with over the past ten years.  During our studio consultation, we were discussing senior pictures ideas in which Jennifer mentioned she wanted to be outdoors, in nature and incorporate water into some of the looks.  We knew the ideal location that would provide the creative elements Jennifer and we wanted for her senior pictures photoshoot.

As it was already late fall, we needed to get things moving quickly as we would be fighting both mother nature and father time to complete the photoshoot before winter appeared.  As we do with all on-location photoshoots, we become meteorologists tracking the weather weeks ahead of the photoshoot date.  As mother nature would have it, on the day of the photoshoot, the forecast called for winds in excess of 40mph.  Wind is one of most unforgiving natural elements to battle during a photoshoot.  Needless to say, we had to push the photoshoot back by one day, and we are glad we did as the weather on the following day turned out be perfect for the late fall.

We headed out to a location which we had previously scouted; in Barrington boarding Hoffman Estates.  The location was the ideal setting as it provided us with our desired creative elements: water, stone, late fall colors and unbelievable warm color lighting from the fall sun.

When we design our senior pictures photoshoots, our creative elements are heavily influenced by fashion.  In consulting with Jennifer on her outfit selections, and the location elements we wanted to use, we designed the photoshoot session to compliment Jennifer’s natural beauty.  We created a contrast between her beauty and the harder natural elements such as the dried-up stone lake bed.

As we were shooting, we noticed the sun’s light popped out from behind a cloud and just lit another area with beautiful golden light that reflected off the lake.  We did our best to quickly navigate over a bed of rocks without twisting an ankle, to capture a few portraits before the light changed.  We directed Jennifer into a position in which the sunlight partially reflected from her hair and her red top.  When you take senior pictures outdoors, you have to move quick to take advantage of what nature provides as it will change ten minutes later.

For the last creative look, we incorporated an advanced lighting technique to use the setting sun and an additional light to highlight Jennifer.  The combination of the two light sources provided the right combination to yield a more dramatic portrait.  As Jennifer is graduating high school and continuing on to college, the next phase of her figure skating life is uncertain.  With this, we composed the final portrait of her walking away with skates in hand as she looks back; reflecting on the past.
